Fall in Love: Creepers

Hello lovelies! You may or may not have heard of the classic goth platform shoes that are commonly called Creepers.

Now, don't let the eerie name fool you, these shoes are actually really cute! They fit into a multitude of styles like:

  • Lolita
  • Grunge
  • Indie
  • Kawaii
  • Punk
  • Goth
There are a few brands that make these versatile shoes, but my favorite is Demonia.
According to Wikipedia, "Creepers or brothel creepers are a type of shoe.
They found their beginnings in the years following World War II, as soldiers based in the deserts in North Africa wore suede boots with hard-wearing crepe (rubber) soles because of the climate and environment. Having left the army, many of these ex-soldiers found their way to the nightspots of London wearing the same crepe-soled shoes and these became known as "brothel creepers".
In the late 1950s, these shoes were taken up by the Teddy Boys along with drainpipe trousers, draped jackets, bolo tiesquiff andpompadour haircuts, and velvet or electric blue clothes. This style of shoe was developed in 1949 by George Cox and marketed under the "Hamilton" name, based on George Cox Jr.'s middle name.[1]
The brothel creeper regained popularity in the early 1970s when Malcolm McLaren sold them from his "Let it Rock" shop inLondon's Kings Road. Teddy Boys were the obvious customers,[clarification needed] but the brothel creeper still proved to be popular among regular customers[2] when McLaren and his partner Vivienne Westwood changed the shop to more rocker-oriented fashion.
The shoe has since been adopted by subcultures such as indieskapunk, new wavers, psychobillygreasers and goth, JapaneseVisual Kei, and was noted[by whom?] as the footwear of choice of Bananarama."

These shoes are a staple in my wardrobe, so much as I own two pairs of them!
I own the top two pairs, and I LOVE them! But the styles of creepers are not limited to those you see here, there is an unlimited amount of styles and heights you can snatch.

Black 2 inch Demonia Seude Creepers from eBay  $73
White 1 inch Demonia Leather Creepers from a Charity Shop $81

Don't let the 2 inch ones scare you! They are as big as you make them out to be. I'm 5'10 so with my black ones I am a total height of 6'!!! If you're tall like me then I recommend the shorter ones as the thick ones are sort of "loud" so to speak. However, that's my opinion, but if you want the thicker ones then go right ahead! You'll look fabulous either way. :)

These shoes will definitely be a statement piece! REMEMBER, if someone says something bad about your new platforms, remind them that you can step on them if they persist! LOL.

If you want, I'll even make a "How I style" post. :o

Stay Fab,
Tiffany
